I think the
newest batch of LNBFs cover is made of inferior non-UV
protected plastic.

The cover faces the dish so does not get direct sunlight. The amount of UV
reflected back from the dish would not be large.
The covers may well crack, but I doubt that UV exposure is a significant
cause.

In their ads, Govt calls it DTH service. Hence I follow it. What is
difference between DTH and Dish?

DTH means Direct To Home. I.e. it is direct to home transmissions via
satellite.

Sorry to hear about the roof leaking. I think you said you
were in India. I've never lived overseas, only visited for
a short time. Is this what is called "monsoon season" now?

..
Yes, this is monsoon season. I seeing on tv some areas of this state
and neighbouring gujarat state is flooded. At least 11 persons killed
and army is called to rescue people.

But it seems that worst is over. It is not raining now and I can see
stars in sky.

Probably fresh out of high school. Take it from someone who's
been around the race track a few times, you're going nowhere
in life with your attitude! I have better things to do with my
time than debate with a juvenile, so, see-ya.

Know-it-alls really irritate those of us who do.

A lot of it depends on the exposure you get. UV does depolymerise
plastics. White nylon cable clips don't last long outside here.

The plastic LNB cover on my satellite dish gets direct sunlight most
of the day. The cover cracked on the top side last Fall and rain water
entered the unit. I rotated the cover crack to the bottom, but the
plastic cap or LNB will have to be replaced when the next crack appears.

The crack appeared at the point where sunlight "strikes" the plastic
cover. The dish has been on the roof since early 1999. IIRC, a small
piece of the plastic cap along the top edge was gone and the white
plastic was brown where sunlight reached it.

I don't know whether the plastic is inferior or UV content in sunlight
caused the problem, but the cover crack allowed rain water to enter the
LNB housing.

ANYWAY.... "rain fade" is just that!
"It" is the circumstances that BLOCKS the signal from the Satellite TO
the dish/Antenna.

"It" doesn't have to be storm being in YOUR inmediate area, as the
"blockage" is indeed in the heavens above.
