Default Cancelling Sky Subscription

Can someone please advise? A friend of mine died recently and his wife asked
me to have a look at the TV as she did not know how to work it. I found that
she has Sky Plus (since 2002) and pays £40 per month. She wants to cancel
this subscription and simply watch the Freeview channels. Because of the
situation of her house she can only receive TV via satellite. What does she
need to do to cancel this current subscription and only view free to air
channels?

Any help appreciated.

Peter

Phone Sky and cancel! She will need to give the required one months notice.
The existing card will remain enabled for C4, five and Sky 3 (only) - some
other Freeview channels are not FTV on satellite.

Cancelling Sky will also disable the Sky+ recording features of her STB but
it is possible to just pay SKy £10/month for these if required.

She will also need the password for the account, as they will probably
try to say they can only deal with the person the account is registered
to. Might be worth asking for a supervisor and explaining the situation
from the outset, rather than trying to deal with the person who answers
the phone.

Someone else has suggested phoning - I would suggest a letter,
purporting to come from the person who signed the contract. If it was
the deceased they may not be prepared to discuss the matter with the spouse.

That depends on who the account holder is. If the account holder is
the deceased then no notice is required; they cannot invoice him in any
case.

Although there would be nothing, legally, to stop them AIUI.

Just stopping paying will work, but getting agreement would be better.

Dave Fawthrop dave hyphenologist co uk Google Groups is IME the *worst*
method of accessing usenet. GG subscribers would be well advised get a
newsreader, say Agent, and a newsserver, say news.individual.net. These
will allow them: to see only *new* posts, a killfile, and other goodies.

Having had a similar situation when my son died, I wrote to them and
included a copy of the death cert.
They cancelled immediately and refunded back to the death date!
The card reverted to freesat (at my request).

That is a pain, especially when your reporting you've forgotten the
password!

That's stupid. People don't stop dying, even for Sky. They'll have been in this
situation hundreds of times before and will definitely cancel.

Tell her to telephone and cancel.
