Default LCD TV advice

Hi

Im in the market for a large screen tv and I have made my mind up that
I would like an LCD due to the option to connect my pc up to the screen
if I want to.

now all these models are a bit confusing so I thought I would state
what Im after and see if any of you can suggest some good options?

42" Screen

PC connectivity

LCD

built in Freeveiw

HD Ready

Pref Black in colour but Im flexible to a point on this.

Budget is up to about £1500 allthough less would be great!

Cheers

Chris

How about a Toshiba 42WLT66 which can be found for less than 1500 GBP.

I have the same dilemma, although wanting to go to 37" max.

Samsung 32/37R74BDX or Toshiba 37WLT66

Samsung has a higer contrast ratio, which is far better than the Tosh's BUT
the tosh has 2 HDMI inputs!

Interesting thanks for the advice,

the HDMI input is a good point.

I may in the future want to get SKY or CABLE HD as well as a Upscaling
DVD player, now I asume this will both need a HDMI input right?

The single HDMI input on the Samsung can be fixed by using the an HDMI switch
box. The lower contrast ratio of the Toshiba can never be fixed.

But the higher contrast is achieved by dynamically varying the backlight
which, IMO, is rubbish and the first thing to switch off. On my mates, dark
scenes varied in blackness as you could see the backlight going up and down.

There are threads about the Samsung higher contrast ratio on
'www.avforums.com' - search for 'samsung contrast bug'. Samsung owners
don't appear to be very 'pleased' about it after all...

I'm not sure what drives people to buy an upscaling DVD player. The scaler
in the TV is probably going to be far superior to that in the DVD player
(compare the bill of materials costs of the two products), so the TV will
make a much better job of the scaling.

Why pay for another scaler when you've already got one?

well for me its a certain amount of ignorance, I have just heard about
these upscaling dvd players and thoight they sound cool, if the tv can
do the same job then great I wont have to fork out for a new dvd
player!
