Default Film4 Cropping Films

I am disgusted that Film4 are now cropping films from 2.35:1 or 1.85:1
to 16:9.

Haven't watched enough of them, you mean they're actually trimming
part of the picture? BTW, how often are the add breaks? I was thinking
of recording the Marx bros stuff this week but it was an awkward time
and I didn't want to babysit to cut adds outs every ten minutes

Yeah, they are cutting the sides off the films, they are shown full
width during the opening / closing credits, but during the actual film
they are then cropped down to 16:9.

The films I have watched so far have only had two breaks in them, not
sure if the other ones are more frequent, they could well be.

Well I have my sky box set to weird dimensions so that wouldn't happen
to me on my widescreen, which it seemed to do even though it's a
bloody widescreen, so that's annoying.

Good news about the ads though, I could probably live with one every
thirty minutes max.

There was one ad break in Horse Feathers, but then it only runs for
just over an hour.

Don't worry if you miss the Marx Brothers' films - they're sure to
show them again.

Yeah, I was kind of pushing myself but didn't get round to it in the
end. It's one of those things i always think I'd like to do, certainly
makes more sense than paying out whatever prices they ask for boxed
sets of stuff nowadays.

Well tonight was the first time I have watched...

Earlier on the advert breaks were very short and consisted of a film four ad
and a movie trailer... during Ghost World there were some standard adverts
though...

Why is it? Films should be shown in their original aspect ratio or not at
all. The DVD market hasn't exactly been harmed by having films in the
correct ratio, so why won't TV companies show some balls and not crop films?

As long as Film4 crop films, I won't watch, free or not. Same goes for any
channel.
