Default Another StarChoice Question

Another StarChoice question.

I have a DSR500. I note that the later models (DSR505, DSR530) have a DVI
output. Is there really a noticeable difference in the PQ as compared to
component output -- with its
conversion from Digital to Analog? (As opposed to letting the TV do it) I have a
Sony XS955 if that is relevant.

I can't answer the question directly, as my TV has only component inputs.

But there really shouldn't be any difference in picture quality as long as
the cabling is decent.

Default Another StarChoice Question

It might also be dependent on which unit has the better D to A converter, the
STB or the TV

Well, in any contest between my satellite receiver and the TV, the TV wins!

It seems that is usually the case! So you are in essence saying that the DVI
output will give the superior picture, at least to some degree.

Only potentially on digital sets. CRTs will be better with component inputs

Not true, generally. Most systems are with digital connections, but one
cannot generalize too much. It depends on the source and destination units.

So even if I went for a DSR 505 (w.DVI) and connected with both component &
DVI--the A to B comparison would be difficult, since it takes a TV 1 or 2
seconds to assemble the new picture! Thus fine point would be hard/ impossible
to determine. (not to mention SD signals!

That might be hard to say. *I* certainly cannot tell you, since I have
neither of these units. My DSR500 is not quite as good at 1080i fixed as
my TV with 480p input and its internal line doubler--on SD signals. On HD
signals, of course, 1080i is the proper mode for my set.
