A digital copy would be better.

and burned a movie on a dvd +r. Now i can only view that
movie on the dvd burner. I can viewit on my PC or on another dvd
player. this is the first time i have tried it. What am i missing??

thanks

As well as what the other poster said, just burning the file will not
create a format that a DVD player can recognize (most DVD players
won't play files from a DVD-ROM, like a computer will). You need to
use a DVD authoring program, such as the one that comes with Nero.

Jesus H....... , he HAS A DAMN STANDALONE RECORDER!!!!!!!!!!

Some burners require you to "finalize" your disk before they work in
"a''"
other DVD players. is more a question of your burner and not TiVo.
Check
your owners manual for info on "finalizing" a disk.

Also, make sure whatever you want to play it on can read a DVD -R. Not
all
the older gear can.

Does anyone read the OP postings? He said he has DVD+R.

Yeah, the "-" was a typo. Everything I said still applies to "+R". Calm
down. If you are as affluent in the technology as you purport to be, you
would have figured that out.

I came across people talking about "finalizing" a few years ago and was
totally puzzled.

Apparently, this is some sort of Microsoft Windows "feature".

The Humax TiVo/DVD-R recorder doesn't need "finalizing" nor does my wife's
iMac for CDs, nor my Macintosh G4 MacMini DVD-R/CD, nor my LaCie
"Lightscribe" external DVD [on the G4MacMini] Recorder (CD/DVD-R/DVD+R).

Gray,

As I stated, my comment(s) are in regard to my stand-alone DVD
recorder. It does not in any way have anything to do with Windows. My
recorder *does* require finalizing in order for the DVD+R discs to be
used on another player. The fact that *your* standalone that uses
DVD-R discs does not, has nothing whatever to do with the OPs
problems, nor does the fact that your external burner on your Mac that
will use DVD+R's. (Unimportantly, I have burners on 4 separate Win XP
computers, and none of them require "finalizing" a DVD+R disc either).

Should your reason for posting simply be to bash Windows, may I
suggest that there are many, many more appropriate reasons than
finalizing a DVD+R.

"finalizing" seems to be necessary for multisession support, and
should be entirely automatic unless you're doing that.

Seeing as 2 out of the 3 machines you list above are "-R" (you make no
mention of them supporting "+R") I'm going to guess that all the blank media
you by is of the "-R" variety. Try recording something on a standalone
burner (external is not standalone) using "+R" media, then check it's
compatibility against a myriad of standalone players. You will see many of
them will have issues playing said recording with no mention of Windows
anywhere in the equation.

It shouldn't be entirely automatic. If it were, you wouldn't be able to add
a session as the disc was already finalized. It is manual because in many
circumstances there is no way for the recorder to know you are done adding
to it.

There's a lot more to it than yes or no.
