Default recording multiple tv programs to DVD-R

I have a Tivo series 1, and it has a function that "Record to VCR"

but it just play one program at a time... you have to manually do it
for multiple shows.

in Series 2, can't you pick 4 shows in a row, and press Record on the
DVD recorder, and leave? Or do you have to manually record those shows
one by one?

if we have to do it manually, I hope Series 3 will have that
function... as recording 8 shows, each 30 minutes, to a DVD-R in the
4-hour mode will be rather tedious. maybe we can voice this concern
to tivo.

On an S2 or S3 I'd just as soon xfer all I want to PC and burn them with a
software product. This will avoid doing them 1 at a time as well as
eliminate a D/A-A/D conversion stage for better quality.

suppose it is 4 hours of tv programs... would that take close to 2
hours of processing time from start to finish? Cathy in another
thread said 30 minutes but I wonder if she means for 1 hour program or
for 2 hour program....

doing it your way, 2 hour High Quality vs a 4 hour Medium Quality
should take about the same time as long as that final DVD is about
4.5GB?

thanks so much.

Don't really know how long it would take, never stick around. I "Q" things
up and leave. It's done when I get back.

Using a Stand Alone DVD recorder with an internal hard drive makes the
process much easier. you still have to select each program one at a
time from the Tivo, but you simply copy themt to the hard drive of the
SA DVD recorder, then collect them all and burn at high speed to the
DVD.

Of course, it's easier still if you Hack the Tivo, connect it to your
home network, then transfer all of them to you PC and author a DVD
containing all the individual files.

so you can queue a few programs at a time huh? i saw that Tivo's best
and high quality are both 480 x 480, so in fact we lose a little
resolution if we were to record directly from tuner to DVD? i guess it
is not so important if we use standard tv... it is already quite clear
enough.

Good. Also, don't forget that "Save to VCR" is a real time process,
where timing is always critical. Even a minor glitch in that TiVo (or
VCR or other device) can add an error to the recording.

You can get 720 x 480 out of a Series 1 with some modest hacks. You can
also change the bitrate.

Everyone here needs to start posting whether they have a DirecTV receiver with
Tivo or a standalone Tivo. It makes a whole different situation.
