Some burners require you to "finalize" your disk before they work in "a''" other DVD players. is more a question of your burner and not TiVo. Check your owners manual for info on "finalizing" a disk. |

What am i missing?? thanks rock Lobster As well as what the other poster said, just burning the file will not create a format that a DVD player can recognize (most DVD players won't play files from a DVD-ROM, like a computer will). You need to use a DVD authoring program, such as the one that comes with Nero. -- Mark Lloyd http://notstupid.laughingsquid.com "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. I never saw a DVD authoring program (that could burn the DVD too) where "finalize" was an option. It sounds to me like he's using a standalone DVD recorder, not a computer authoring program. On many DVD recorders, a disk must be finalized before it is fully compatible with other devices. From a Pioneer write up... Much like "closing" a recordable CD, you must finalize a Video mode DVD-R/RW disc in order to be able to play it on a regular DVD player or computer DVD drive. This writes all the necessary control information to the disc, and adds a main menu. Once a disc is finalized, you cannot edit or add more material to it. The amount of time required for finaalization depends on the disc mode and the amount of recorded material. Video mode discs can take up to 20 minutes to finalize, and VR mode discs can take up to 1 hour From Philips... (and specific to the DVD +R format) By adding support for the write-once DVD+R format, the recorders permit you to make permanent recordings, without the possibility that they can be erased and rewritten. But since the format is not rewritable, there are some differences in how such discs are used. In particular, DVD+R discs must be finalized before they can be played on regular DVD players. You can perform some edits after recording and before finalizing, but they will not be available on regular DVD players. Also, in regards to software authoring programs, Nero 7 has that option. I can't test it as I only have -R disks and the option is grayed out in that circumstance. |

These discs most certainly "DO" require finalizing in order to be read in any other player. There will be some menu item on the DVD recorder that accomplishes this. |

Read the OP question before posting . |
