Default RCA 27" DIGITAL TV

I'm too old to beat my brains out about all the new technology. My old
27" crt looked great to me at aprox. 6ft. Wal-mart has this set for
$348. It converts 480 to 480i. I believe it has a HDMI input. What
quality pic can i expect from this tv? TIA

This is pretty much the same type set you had before, with a ATSC tuner and
a few extra features to future proof the set. You can use the ATSC digital
tuner for OTA tuning or hook it up to cable to receive unencrypted channels.
It also has a NTSC tuner just like your old set for analog reception OTA or
cable. Use one use both use a cable box, you just have one extra tuner to
use or not use, it up to you. And you can watch shows from a digital feed
that are HD and the set will take care of displaying them. There is no HDMI
input but it really wouldn't be a feature you'd need for this set.

The extra tuner is there so that when they shut off the analog feed that you
would still be able to watch your set if you had only an antenna and no
cable provider.

The same as your old set when it was new. no better, no worse using NTSC.
Using ATSC (digital tuner) the the resoultion will be the same, but with a
decent antenna, the picture should be a lot more pure than NTSC tuner.

That's a little high IMO. They have other 27" sets with atsc tuner for
about $100 less. Flat tube really doesn't do much IMO.

THANKS WES. I believe your right. Costco has a 27" Phillips for less
money but i don't know if it has a QAM tuner like the RCA. I need a QAM
tuner for cable tv.

I don't use cable or sat, but I think all TV, VCR, etc. sets have to be
cable ready.

If the set at Costco is the Phillips # 27PT9015D/37 then yes the tuner is
QAM enabled. I've not seen one of the recent crop of SD-Digital sets that
doesn't enable QAM on the digital tuner. The LG tuner design that all these
sets appear to use works for QAM, unless it where disabled it's there.
