I'm moving from a house to a condo and am considering a wall mountable
plasma to replace my rear projection to save space. I have to admit I haven't kept up with all the latest tech news because it gets overwhelming. Could someone recommend a 42 to 50 inch plasma. I'd like at least 1080i capability, but don't need the HD decoder built in as my cable company provides a set top box and I wouldn't want to give up the dual tuner DVR inside. While I'm looking for a bargain, I'd prefer it not be a simple monitor as 99% of the time I don't fire up the surround sound system, I just listen to the broadcast audio. I always scan the Sunday papers for sales, but they're not reliable when it comes to specifying the sets resolution. Are some of the bargain brands out there actually any good? |

Depends on what you mean by "capability". You can run a 1080i signal into any set; BUT: A) There is no plasma set smaller than 50 inches that can display all the pixels of even a 720P signal. B) There are 50+ inch sets that can display a 1080 signal. Very expensive. Your best bet is to look at the Pioneer, Panasonic, etc web sites. Elite makes a 50" 1080P set for $10K. 45 inch LCD sets with 1920 x 1080 resolution can be had for less than 4K. (Samsung, Sharp, Sony) Tam |

So, what are my best options for a 42 to 50 inch HDTV that can be mounted on the wall? |

Westinghouse makes 2 very interesting HDTV 1080p LCD displays, a 37 inch and
a 42 inch. They are priced around $1600 and $2100 respectively, and have received mostly favorable reviews. Smarty "Tam/WB2TT" wrote in message ... "Ric" wrote in message ... Best overall for the money is the Panasonic TH-50PX60U, or the 42" version if you prefer that size. Check the reviews and you will find that Panasonic is still the most bang for the buck. The Pioneer may be a tad better is some areas, mostly aesthetic, but generally sells for $1k more. http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/p...0u-review.html Tim McTeague |

There is also now a 47" Westinghouse LCD display that has just hit the
market and has had some good comments on the AV Forum. It starts he http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...8&page=1&pp=30 Bob "Smarty" wrote in message ... (Samsung, Sharp, Sony) Tam I started looking into the Westinghouse line of monitors and they look interesting. One area raises my curiosity...please forgive my ignorance. I'm so used to clicking on the TV for run of the mill viewing such as cable news, it seems having a monitor without a tuner or sound would be a bit of a pain. Of course my DVR and surround sound system will provide those functions, but being lazy, I'd prefer to just turn on the TV. And often the DVR is busy recording from two different channels when I'm watching a third. Is there an easy way to overcome this inconvenience when purchasing a monitor? Is there such a thing as a separate tuner that can be attached and switched on simultaneously with the monitor? Like I said...pretty ignorant in this area. |

Thanks Bob for letting us know. The specs look very impressive but it will
apparently be a couple months until the 47" model is available. Should be another winner. Smarty "Bob" wrote in message ... I'm waiting myself until I can pick one up personally at a local Best Buy.
They are available now and quite a few posters on the AV Forums have already purchased them from Crutchfield at a very good price ( with free shipping!) and so far their personal reviews sound like it's a great set. I have a 240 lb Sony 36" Wega that I will pass on to a relative as soon as I can get one locally. Bob "Smarty" wrote in message ... Thanks Bob for letting us know.
