Hi. I'm in an email conversation with somebody that's trying to program
special key-function codes into a One-For-All-4 universal remote, a URC-7740, so that they can convert their Sony RDR-GX120 DVD-recorder to region-free. Unfortunately, the conversation is extremely slow-going, and I don't yet know if the URC-7740 takes 3-digit or 5-digit key-function codes. (Typically, the older OFAs use 3 digits and the newest use 5 digits.) Can anybody that owns a URC-7740 help me out here please? A URC-7740: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5344905.htm The Sony hack: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214244 To check if the OFA takes 3 or 5 digit codes, you do the following. * Press the DVD button * Hold the "magic" key until a double flash occurs on the DVD button. * Enter 994 and watch for a double flash * Press "magic" once without holding it * With about 1 second between each key-press, enter: 0 0 0 0 0 0 Did a double flash occur after the 4th or the 6th zero? If it's the former, then the OFA takes 3-digit codes and if it's the latter, then it takes 5-digit codes. (To restore the "0" key to normal: hold-magic ** 994 ** 0 0 **) -- Dave Farrance |

So it does. Apologies to Gary. I'd fallen into the habit of leaving out the "www", as Gary had done. It wouldn't have mattered if that had been the canonical name of the server, but www.oneforall.co.uk is actually an alias of www.oneforall-int.com . ... also it led me to the following page, which suggests it is a 5 function code. http://www.oneforall-int.com/cgi-uni...choice2=&code= Thanks. I'd looked at the OFA sites in the past, but the key-function-codes had only been mentioned on the "unofficial" sites. They're still not mentioned in the downloadable manuals for the remotes. -- Dave Farrance |

My remote was so old I had to update the codes. There are 5 separate sets of
Sony DVD codes for downloading into the remote. I used the one labelled Sony 5 and it worked Gary -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This e-mail has been virus checked by Mcafee Virus Scan. I recall somebody saying on some forum that the OFA6 could be upgraded by playing a file to it via the PC's speaker, so I presume that you mean that. You wouldn't happen to know which OFA device-codes correspond to the three Sony "command-modes", by any chance? You can select one of three command-modes for the Sony remote, so that you can have up to three Sony DVD players/recorders without their remotes interfering with each other. I know that OFA device-code 0533 corresponds to command-mode 1, but I don't know the other two. -- Dave Farrance |
