Discovery 'Go' For July 4 Launch

Mission managers have cleared Discovery for launch at 2:38 p.m. EDT on
July 4. A day of additional analysis showed that the loss of a small piece
of foam from the external tank didn't pose a safety concern for launch.

I hope someone manages to record it in HD form HDNET. TS files would be
great.

Thanks,

Bonk

Hi.

In Europe we have no access to NASA TV, only streaming (128k). I know
HDNET
broadcasts NASA TV in HD.
Is there a NASA/Space fan willing to capture the upcoming launch of the
Space Shuttle on July 1st? And post it on a.b.hdtv?

Thanks for your time,

A space fan

The launch was cancelled due to the weather..just an FYI

Please respond here on the newsgroup to let me know whether the clip I
posted is satisfactory. (I think I used "HDTV Post" or something like
that as the sender name.) This is the first time I've ever tried to
post a binary. I've downloaded plenty, but last night when I began
puzzling through my newsreader software I realized I'd never uploaded
any. It took me some time to figure it out, and I'm not sure I got it
right. Had to reboot this morning and (I hope) continue about where
the upload left off. I have my fingers crossed that the entire effort
isn't a waste of time and newsgroup space.

Easynew's parViewer is showing parts 1, 5, and 12 are missing. I think
part 1 was never posted and parts 5 and 12 are incomplete. I don't
know if there are enough par files to repair. I'm downloading it now
to check.

Nevermind. When I posted that, not all the files had made it to the
server. Parts 5 and 12 are still incomplete, but there should be
enough pars to fix. Thanks for the post. HDNet isn't available from my
cable provider.

Glad to hear it. When I left the house this morning it was still
uploading. If you're seeing SmartPar files now, it must be finished,
or nearly finished. I have a slow connection to newsgroups -- my ISP
throttles the transfer rate. If I want a fast connection I have to pay
extra, and I have more time than money. So uploading has taken a
while.

I'd be very interested to know 1) whether you can successfully unrar
the set; 2) whether I created the Par and Par2 (SmartPar) files
properly, and; 3) whether the clip is what you expected. I had to trim
out the launch sequence from the original capture, which ran for a
couple of hours and was over 13 gigabytes. I believe that in the
process I converted the transfer stream clip to mpeg2. The finished
clip that I rar-ed looked just great to me, but I'm strictly a novice
at all this and I'm not even sure I'm using the proper terminology.
Did you get what you hoped for? If I ever do something like this
again, I want to be sure I get it right on the first try. Thanks.

Everything looks good, including the rar and par files. I normally use
Powerpost (YencPowerPostA&A11b.exe) to upload files. It is easier than
using Xnews, in my opinion. I upload about 8 GB per month, though I
convert the .ts files to XviD before posting.

The video clip is stunning. Choosing 2.5 minutes before launch to
start the clip was a very good starting point. Thanks so much for
uploading it.

I like how HDNet used the audio feed from NASA TV during launch,
unlike other networks that let the commentators yak away. The picture
and sound speak for themselves. The think HDNet should have switched
to the ET cameras sooner after SRB seperation instead of showing an
empty launch pad.

Thanks again.

Excellent. I did a lot of guesswork with the rar files, trying to
figure out what would be a nominal size for each of the sections.
Nearly choked my computer at one point creating a zillion 5K files
because I thought I was dealing with kilobytes when I was actually
dealing with bytes. After posting some trials to alt.binaries.test, I
finally came up with something that I thought looked similar to other
video files on the alt.binaries.hdtv newsgroup. I'll look for
Powerpost. I am not happy with Xnews or NewsBin, both of which I find
very user unfriendly. I never did figure out how to upload with
NewsBin. At least with Xnews I lucked into making it work.

And thank you for the response. I can leave it alone now. Hooray.

Earthlink doesn't seem to carry alt.binaries.hdtv, and I can't find it on
Google News either. Can anyone recommend a public server that carries it?
