Hi.
In Europe we have no access to NASA TV, only streaming (128k). I know HDNET broadcasts NASA TV in HD. Is there a NASA/Space fan willing to capture the upcoming launch of the Space Shuttle on July 1st? And post it on a.b.hdtv? Thanks for your time, A space fan |

Thanks for your time, A space fan This is precisely what I was attempting to do when I discovered some of my HD channels are different from others. I can use CapDVHS to grab a transport stream from HDNET, but when I try to convert it to mpeg2 using HDTV2MPEG2, all I get is a black screen. I can convert .ts files from other HDTV channels just fine. HBO for example. But not from HDNET, apparently, nor ABC and perhaps others. I get the .ts file. I can view it with VLC media player, though any motion results in tearing. I can view it with the Nero 7 file viewer, but the sound is choppy, and the video too, I think. I have a question about it on alt.tv.tech.hdtv, but so far no answers. I wish I could figure out what's going on. Obviously I am new to all this, and I'm looking for a foolproof way to store HDTV on my hard drive. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |

HDNet is broadcast in MPEG2. No need to convert. What I capture a .ts file from HDNET using CapDVHS, the video shows up black with no sound when I try to play it back with most video file players. I can run it through PVAStrumento and get a gorgeous MPEG2 file with the audio stripped out as an av3 file, which makes no sense to me at all. I am in the process of trying to figure out how to make what I get from HDNET playable in an ordinary file player. I may be missing the obvious -- maybe I should just tell CapDVHS to put an .mpg file extension on what it captures from HDNET instead of .ts. I've found I get a much better result with a .ts extension on some cable channels. Some stuff on some channels comes out jumpy. Some stuff comes out black with no sound. Some stuff flashes bright, dim, bright, dim. And some stuff looks just great. I think that simply changing the extension after capture doesn't work at all. I think. Maybe. I dunno. I will try again. For what it's worth, the HD picture from the Kennedy Space Center on HDNET is just stunning. I can't wait to see the launch. I have a house full of people coming over tomorrow to watch the launch (and the July 4 fireworks on the National Mall from the roof of my condo). Gonna be a fun day. I just hope we get to see a launch. I was sitting next to a NASA employee at the Nationals/Marlins game tonight. She got a message on her Blackberry saying we're going to push for launch. Keep your fingers crossed. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |

When I use CapDVHS to grab a transport stream from HDNET, I get a file that plays nicely with VLC Media Player, but only that software. The file won't play with Windows Media Player or any other normal video file player that I have. How can I convert the file to make it playable on ordinary computers with ordinary file player software? Thanks. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |

Microsoft is unable get media player to play a full res 1920x1080i stream at 19.4Mbs. I hear that Mplayer and winamp can handle this higher res at these bitrates. |

Discovery 'Go' For July 4 Launch
Mission managers have cleared Discovery for launch at 2:38 p.m. EDT on July 4. A day of additional analysis showed that the loss of a small piece of foam from the external tank didn't pose a safety concern for launch. I hope someone manages to record it in HD form HDNET. TS files would be great. Thanks, Bonk "eHDMI" wrote in message oups.com... Bonk wrote: Hi. In Europe we have no access to NASA TV, only streaming (128k). I know HDNET broadcasts NASA TV in HD. TS files would be great. Please respond here on the newsgroup to let me know whether the clip I posted is satisfactory. (I think I used "HDTV Post" or something like that as the sender name.) This is the first time I've ever tried to post a binary. I've downloaded plenty, but last night when I began puzzling through my newsreader software I realized I'd never uploaded any. It took me some time to figure it out, and I'm not sure I got it right. Had to reboot this morning and (I hope) continue about where the upload left off. I have my fingers crossed that the entire effort isn't a waste of time and newsgroup space. The clip is over two gigabytes. It starts about two and a half minutes before launch and continues to the end of the HDNET broadcast. Toward the end when they're repeating video of the launch, there are some great shots from several Hi-Def camera angles -- shots that weren't used during the actual launch. I've seen most of the Shuttle launches -- several in person -- but this was the first time I recall such a clear view of the solids falling away. Very nice. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |
