Hello,
I'm looking to set up my Series 2 Tivo on my wireless network and have been eyeing those USB Wireless Adaptors - the ones that are self-contained, plug into the USB port, and look just like a flash drive or jump drive. Will those work with Tivos? Is there some sort of special drivers that would need to be installed? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Chris Hafner |

Cheers, Chris Hafner FWIW, I found that it took less time to pull cables for my Tivos to connect them to my network than I spent "trying" to get the wireless adapters to work (3 DirecTivos connected to my Linksys WRT54G). I used Netgear WG111v2 wireless adapters, which I had read worked... but I never could get them to. On the other hand, the wired connections (using Netgear FA120 adapters) worked right from the start. And besides, wired gives much faster transfers than wireless. As well as greater security and simplicity (with the reliability that comes with that). BTW, that USB-ethernet adapter is the same model I have. I just had a delightful experience hooking my TIVO wireless network adaptor
to a Linksys WRT54G series 6 router. I purchased the TIVO brand network adaptor from TIVO directly, after not finding any of the "approved" ones in local stores. I reasoned that, even though it was ten bucks or so more than local brands...I paid no sales tax; very little shipping, and they should support it better than non-TIVO branded items. It installed almost completely by itself ( thank goodness) in minutes and I couldn't be happier. Also, it arrived in two days, even though I paid for 4 to 6 day shipping. I had no problems with a D-Link DWL-122 that I had sitting around. It's
only 802.11b, however, so if you plan to use TivToGo, you may want an 802.11g device instead -- I've got a Humax unit that records to disc so I don't yet have a need for pulling files to a PC. It works fine for getting listings and updates, however. Also, I have two WLANs at home -- one that's 802.11b and only protected by MAC address filtering. The other WLAN is WPA2 Personal. So for the Tivo config, I didn't have to enter WEP keys and my AP was already set up to pass traffic for the D-Link's MAC. Also, the Tivo flashed the firmware on my DWL-122 when I first slotted it. Pretty slick. -Gary |
