This is pretty much par for the course. Football is a bad source to start with: lots of fast movement, fine image contours and uniform colours. Any SD sat source is going to look rather poor on a 42in screen at the best of times. Funnily enough, the BEST change from SD to HD is sport, it does look very good indeed. Picture is fuzzy, blurry patches, distance seems out of focus, almost like watching the screen through slightly frosted glass at times - a bit like the quality of streaming video on the pc. signal quality seems okay. not tried analogue as I dont have an aerial set up. is this picture quality normal for a 42" plasma hdtv when not run with an hdtv source? I have a non-HD widescreen CRT and football on ITV has been of noticably ****e quality on Sky Digital. I don't think this will come as news to most readers here. I counter the effects by drinking plenty of beer which is much more effective than forking out for expensive SCART leads. I like the cut of your jib!!! How close are you sitting ? I am VERY picky about picture quality, but my
Panasonic 42" is great until you sit less than about 8'- 10' from the screen and then you start to notice all the imperfections. HD is exceptional but even that starts to show the limitations of the screen if you get close. Ainsley "dakeb" wrote in message ... just got a samsung 42" plasma hdtv. "dakeb" wrote in message ... yeah its set up right. apparently the itv bitrates over sky are very low. bbc and sky are low too but not as bad as itv. think i'll buy a quality scart to try to improve the picture. will that improve the bitrate then? no but it might improve the losses between the box and the telly |

I have been very pleased with how good the quality of the best SDTV is on my new 46" Samsung LCD HDTV. The BBC channels are especially good. I am receiving the satellite signal on a DVB-S card in a PC connecting to the screen via VGA. -- Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur Also make sure your picture settings in sky are set at RGB not pal that should improve the picture through a scart. dave Also make sure that you are connecting to the TV SCART that accepts RGB. On many TVs there is only one such socket. good point I must prise the plasma off the wall and check! |
