"Julian Richards" wrote in message ... Having watched the last England match on plain vanilla Sky, I noticed how poor the picture was. Presumeably that was due to the satellite link. That can't bode well for HD footie from Germany. Why on earth would the SD picture quality have anything to do with the HD picture? HD is meant to be better. And it is. Anyone who has seen HD transmissions from Premiere (the German HD channel) will know how good the PQ they can expect from the World cup will be. Loz |

I certainly wouldn't pay Sky £10 for HD and £10 for recording
"services". Why not? |

My point was that if the footie is sent to the UK on a rather dodgy link then there is no way you can get a decent quality picture. The only people getting there money's worth out of that are the Alan Hansen fetishists watching the half time analysis from the UK studio. -- Julian Richards www.richardsuk.f9.co.uk Website of "Robot Wars" middleweight "Broadsword IV" |

The same "dodgy link" that is currently providing a superb HD picture on HD football and Cricket? Loz |

One must put it down to the quality of the satellite link from Budapest. If the link from Germany is no better (although it might well be) then all those people who bought HD to watch the World Cup will be disappointed. -- Julian Richards www.richardsuk.f9.co.uk Website of "Robot Wars" middleweight "Broadsword IV" |

If the link from Germany is no better (although it might well be) then all those people who bought HD to watch the World Cup will be disappointed. what are you on about? England vs Hungary was at old trafford. Or did Man U relocate to Budapest, and somehow I missed that? And regardless, the quality of the link between one broadcaster to another (e.g. German TV to the BBC) is removed from the quality of the link from the BBC to you. For example, BBC MOTD has had some poor quality broadcasts recently inspite of the fact that those same matches were filmed in HD on Sky (and were very good according to those who saw them in HD), and they were in very good quality on Sky SD. That was a consequence of the BBCs tranmission, not Sky's link to the BBC. There is absolutely no reason to suggest that the BBC world cup coverage will be in poor quality. And watching SD transmissions is no indication of that. And if it is, it wont be because of the link from Germany to the BBC which will be a very high bandwidth HD link. Loz |
