Default SKY HD / Sky+ Query

Do you have to pay the Sky+ fee if you want to go HD?

Is it possible to use the HD box just as a normal digibox and not using any
of the Sky+ features?

Theoretically yes, but I am not aware of anyone who has done it.
Boxes are now available from 3rd parties, but they still seem to be tying
them to subscriptions.
I haven't seen anyone selling the box, stand alone, with no contractual
obligations.
that will probably come once the initial shortages are ironed out

The question actually was "go HD but without paying the Sky+ subscription"
which imples Sky standard subscription + just £10 for HD and *NO* Sky+
subscription.

AFAIK this is perfectly possible.

Well that is a way of interpreting the question.

I could also interpret is is "go HD" meaning receiving FTA HD content such
as BBC, which requires no £10 HD subscription.

AFAIK this is perfectly possible.

Possible, and actual are different things in Sky's book.
