Default OK, so I came back to Sky yesterday from Telewest

The reason I left Sky in the first place was the crappy digiboxes failing
every couple of months - I had 7 or 8 over 18 months, finally giving up and
moving to Telewest cable, where I have been happily living for 24 months.

However, Telewest required that I took a Telewest telephone line, which was
never used - and eventually I decided to move back to Sky, which was
installed yesterday.

Today, I have massive audio distortion on all channels...

Sky, you've got to love the naffness...

Check the volume, turn it right down. It won't cure it all but it
might help with some.

I install and sell the things. In all the hundreds that I have fitted
only a very small number has failed (mostly the tuners in old Pace
units). Modern units are very reliable. None of my customers has had
more than one bad box in 8 years.

There must be some special problem with yours.

Reboot the box. If that doesn't work then reduce the volume level in
the service menu.

Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.

I still have working a Pace box installed launch day, don't know what they
are doing to their boxes.

Your kind of unlucky, my mums digibox has been going for seven years, with
nothing more then a handful of reboots (once i moved it to somewhere better
ventilated). My box has been going two years, again with about four reboots,
the box i had prior to that at a different address, was again hardly reset.

I had found though that they can be a pain, if you have them on top of
something giving out heat, or they themselves lack ventilation. They dont
need to be stuck next to an extractor fan, but just somewhere where the heat
can disapate.

I get the same on my Samsung tv, I actually blame the tv more then I do
the Sky box, it is the doggy capabilities of the inputs on the tv to
blame not sky, just turn down the volume in the service menu, and that
should sort it.

Not true any more, but it is £22pm; only £5 cheaper than with a phone line.
I'm sure you *do* have to have a BT line for Sky; though with you being a
'returning' customer I guess you have the kit already so might not have to
have one?

I assume you don't want HD? ;-)

Certainly not and has never been the case. If they require you to
connect the digibox to a fixed telephone line, then any provider will
do.

Okay. Well, it only mentions BT in the last contract I looked at. At least,
I think it did. Will re-check :-)

Then you didn't look properly. :-(

How do you know what was the last contract he looked at? Have Sky's Ts&Cs
remained constant over the last couple of decades?

I think it did. Will re-check :-)

You said before you were "sure", which was flatly wrong

He may well have been sure. He may have been wrong. Unless you're a psychic,
however, you can't say he wasn't sure.
