Dad's Army and Python were mostly shot on video. The film inserts (which probably were never stored after being transferred to the master videotape) were often shot on 16mm, I think what you mean to say is that the studio scenes were shot on video and the outdoor scenes were shot on film. This applies to virtually every such BBC programme made in those decades. For many programmes (including Python) that would mean that a large proportion was indeed shot on film. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. This applies to virtually every such BBC programme made in those decades. That is what I said, since many of those programmes were predominantly studio based (outside filming being far more expensive and therefore only being used sparingly). For many programmes (including Python) that would mean that a large proportion was indeed shot on film. It would mean that a certain amount, usually not the majority, was shot on film, and, as I said, transferred to videotape. The original film material (a) often does not exist, (b) was never shot on a high enough quality film format to bring any benefit for HD use. As I said, anything shot and edited completely on 35mm film and where that original film exists, would be a very good candidate for HD mastering. Anything shot mostly on video, featuring a handful of played-in inserts shot on 16mm, and where only the VT copy of that film still exists, would be a very poor candidate indeed for HD use. And that includes Dad's Army and Python. -- |

All this to make utter tripe, dogs, dots, coming soon/next banners look better??? WTF are you talking about now? Well if you don't know you've been brainwashed by todays broadcasting standards! In the Days of Dads Army/Python etc, We got quality programming and ignored how bad or good the picture was. Like hell you did. Your memory is playing tricks on you - it's easy to remember the programmes you liked from that age and then assume that everything broadcast those days was of an equal standard. Let me tell you, it wasn't. Look at an average night's line-up from 30 years ago and there'll be hardly anything that wasn't shown once and never seen again. Show that kind of material today and a channel would be bankrupt within hours. Strange UK Gold does it now showing the same BBC stuff from 30 years ago, The difference then was there was'nt as many repeats as the channels do these days. |

Alternatively perhaps your brain is so addled with age that you can't make yourself clear. If you think that UK Gold is representative of what you would ACTUALLY have seen on TV 30 years ago then you are very, very much mistaken. I would conduct an actual comparison, but UK Gold's website only has the schedule for today and tomorrow, large chunks of which are "Not ready yet". How very like them. -- |

I'd prefer Sky went bust and took it's American TV programming tactics with it for good. So the BBC don't use DOGs Eh? What a load of ********. As for American shows, great, something with a style, instead of sad little UK soaps where everyone is depressed all the time, or left wing ******** posing as entertainment. If the BBC wants to carry on, fine, but on a commercial setting so I can choose not to pay for the crap they dish out or not as the case might be. Before you start with again your anti Sky crap, I can choose not to take this if I want. With the BBC I have no choice |
