Haven't used that device, but I have an ATI USB card. Does an OK job,
but drops a lot of frames when capturing full resolution (analog only). Just viewing doesn't show any problems. However, analog tv looks terrible on my laptop's display. I'm sure it is the LCD and not the capture device, because I've sent captured files to my desktop and they look fine. Since I bought the card to do a quick quality check (instead of carrying a test set with me), I was very disapointed. Make sure you can return if it doesn't meet your needs. |

With a 3400+ 64 bit AMD chip, the PC should have been fast enough, but I had the same sync problem, plus dropouts. Took it back and got an Adaptec PCI card. Works like a charm. Unfortunately, that is not an option for a laptop. There may be other USB tuners that work. Mine had next to no parts in it, although at $99 it was not all that cheap. I bought it to digitize Hi8 video tapes. Tam |

I wish I could remember the brand of USB tuner I got, but it had about 1/8 the number of components that the Adaptec PCI card has. Since it has to contain virtually a complete TV receiver, there is only so far you can go with integrating it. USB itself should be fast enough, because some camcorders connect via USB, though my Canon uses Firewire. I would try and find user opinions on any USB box you are considering, and try to buy it locally with the understanding that you can return it. I had no problem returning it to CompUSA. It was not HD, just a plain NTSC with antenna, SVideo and composite inputs. Tam |

Ahh...so its more the physical smallness of USB based tuners that you feel is there downfall? Not enough room for the components necessary to work well? yes? |
