Your guide to the digital TV switchover

Just got this through the post (Border region). It contains such gems as
"If your TV receives more than 5 channels it's probably already
digital". I just can't begin to imagine the confusion this could
potentially cause;
"Do we have Sky already then dear?"
"I don't know, I'll just check... One, two, three, four, five, six - oh
yes, we're all set!"

Nice to see HD gets two mentions. From the 'Why are we switching to
digital TV' section;
"Digital TV is more efficient. It frees up airwaves that could be used
for innovations such as mobile TV or high definition TV".

Does it say this,

If you're considering getting new HD ready TV equipment be sure it has the
digital 'tick'

logo as well as the HD ready logo.



I've seen TVs with HD logo in shops but not sure about the digital tick,
will look in shops next time out.

Yes it does.

I've seen TVs with HD logo in shops but not sure about the digital tick,

I've seen plenty of TVs with the HD Ready logo and the Digital tick,
although I can't really see the point of having the tuner built into the
display anyway.

Still as confusing as ever, I live in Kendal where it's transmitter
sources the commercial channels (Border) from Caldbeck and BBC from
Winter Hill, it's not clear is Kendal will be done in 2008 or later as
part of the Grananda region - We'll classed as an overlap area

All it says is :-
'You may live in an overlap area (indicated in light pink on the map)
where you can
receive a signal from more than one TV region. You can check your TV
region by
seeing which ITV news service you receive or on Teletext page 106.'

although I can't really see the point of having the tuner built into the

It's so that granny can switch on to watch the news in the morning without
having to work out whether it's coming from AV1, AV2, etc. I also prefer it
that way except when I'm watching a major movie on DVD.

AIUI, it's whatever ITV region your transmitter radiates, that
determines the switch off. In your case Kendal is Border's
transmitter, so it will go at the same time as Caldbeck.

That will present a challenge for the Beeb, because they'll
presumably have to provide a special feed to Kendal, until Winter Hill
and Lancaster carry the new 'post DSO' muxes a year or so later.

I think the overlap areas refer to direct reception from more than one
transmitter. Some of your neighbours might be on Winter Hill or
Lancaster, so their analogue service won't die until Winter Hill is
shut down.

LOL! What a load of tripe. I get 6 analogue channels, the last one being
Channel M, based in Manchester, which used to have the occasional amusing
programme but now just seems to be Euronews any time I flick past it.
