Help!
I love my 2001 Hitachi... great picture, but only has component inputs. I picked up the HR10=250 from DirecTv during the $200 rebate period, and I'm signed up for the HD package, plus Showtime/HBO HD, etc. The problem: On bright scenes, or scenes with bright flashes, the screen starts rolling and/or blanking for a second, then returns to normal! Its downright irritating!! Seems to happen much more with HD channels than SD ones, though it could be 'cause I try to watch more HD... I really don't know. Has anyone encountered this issue before? I've never seen it happen prior to installing the HR10-250, but the box works flawlessly with everything else, and typically the picture quality is great. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!! |

I could call the Hitachi help line, and if its something they've got a service bulletin for, maybe a service call would fix it. I've been looking around... and I've seen mention of an upgrade kit for the Hitachi RPTV that consisted of a couple capacitors for a progressive DVD issue years back... but it didn't sound like the same issue. Given that the problem doesn't manifest itself with my DVD player (progressive), nor did it happen with my earlier HDTV receiver (Toshiba DST-3000), I'm thinking that perhaps its the Tivo unit sending a broader signal down the component cables, something the Hitachi can't handle. If it were having an issue on "bright" images regardless of input equipment, then I'd tend to think the power supply was having problems supplying voltage under demand... but that isn't the case. Once I get home tonight, I'll try replaying a couple scenes of Battlestar Galactica that reliably cause the issue (Tivo'd off UHD), and switch the HR10-250 to different resolutions, see if that changes anything. It shouldn't, but I haven't tested it yet. I'll post the results here. Thanks! |

Okay, I FINALLY checked it! (Sorry for the delay). An interesting result: the flashing/rolling ONLY happens when I have the HR10-250 set to "1080i" output!! Under 480p, 720p, etc... the same Tivo'd stuff played back with no problems... but under 1080i... BAM! Bright scenes would cause the flashing strangeness. Weird. |

There is a service bulletin and modification for blacking out on 1080i for this set. Sometimes unmodified sets do exactly what you described with certain sources. Leonard |
