1080p claims for TVs supporting only 1080i via HDMI

Default 1080p claims for TVs supporting only 1080i via HDMI

Hello,

Am I alone in being confused by merchants who market TVs such as the
Sony
KDS-R60XBR1 as 1080p?

The manual clearly says that 1080p is not supported via HDMI.
http://www.sonystyle.com/intershopro...BR1_manual.pdf

However, see these sites for 1080p claims:
http://www.tweeter.com/sm-sony-kdsr6...i-2066736.html
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1122655672986

It's my understanding that for all practical purposes, the HDMI would
be the input for
HD video. Is that wrong? Can one of the other TV inputs (Firewire or
DVI) deliver
HD source to the set at 1080p? If so, are there devices or AV
receivers that deliver
a signal in these formats?

I get that the display has 1080 native lines. But my question deals
with the how
the set sources HD in reality.

How do these merchants distinguish sets that can accept 1080p via HDMI
against
those that cannot?

Thanks for any enlightenment!

It has been stated that either the chip set was not ready or they had a copy
protection issue with HDMI, but in either case this set will not be able to
utilize a 1080p24 input from your blue laser player. That, and perhaps
1080p30 are the only possible 1080 progressive scan rates that may become
available.

This Sony, I believe, will accept 1080p24 from a component source, and
Sony's initial release of 1080p24 disks will allow use of this analog
output.

For 24 frame source material, 1080/60i will look essentially identical.

The only real reason to care about any 1080p will be when sports start
to show up on HD disks...then you'll want 1080/60p capable players and
displays.
