Default All sorts of HDMI Telewest problems

Hi - anyone out there got a Telewest TV Drive working off the HDMI
connection? I have a sharp LCD LC-32GA6E that's always been great, but
I've had two telewest engineers out, trying to get the signal going
from the TV Drive to the TV over the HDMI cable, but every time I do
the test to show the picture in HDTV it does not work (no picture in
the box - top right hand-side of screen). The TV also shows 'no
signal' via ext 5 when the HDMI cable is connected. I've tried
changing all the AV/EXT settings on the TV, widescreen is set to auto,
I think I've covered everything, and Telewest have swapped the box out
but it's done no good. Am I missing something obvious? Do I need an
audio (phono-jack) cable as well as the HDMI cable? This is driving me
nuts and Telewest are being even more useless than normal. Thanks for
any help!

It is quite possible that even though the TV Drive has an HDMI socket, it
may not be implimentented in the firmware. Maybe if you wrote to Telewest
somebody could confirm whether it works or not.

I had my TVDrive box installed about 2 weeks ago now and the connected
the box to my Sony Bravia 32" LCD using both SCART and HDMI connections.

Personally I've had no problems getting a good clean image out of the
TVDrive via HDMI. What you could try doing, if you haven't already done
so is to perform a reset of the TVDrive box, use the SCART cable
initially to verify a picture is coming through and then try configuring
the box to use HDMI with the cable connected as well. Doing it this way
means that SCART would always be available as a fallback if the HDMI
connection is working as it should.

As far as I'm aware both SCART (providing you have a fully wired SCART
lead) and HDMI carry audio so no need for a separate cable.

BTW Page 56 of the TVDrive guide tells you how to re-configure the
TVDrive back to use SD output instead of HD output using the box, always
useful when you can't see what's being displayed on the TV screen.

One last thing, does your TV have component inputs at all? That might
be an alternative option while finding a longer term solution for proper
HDMI output.

Are you sure about the HDMI connections. The Sharp website only gives
EXT5 as a 15pin subD connection. This is usually not HDMI compatable.
HDMI also requires HDCP which is not mentioned for this screen.

Yes, the TVDrive requires HDCP

It won't work with a HDMI-DVI cable into my monitor, but works fine
with a HDMI cable into the LCD TV.
