Default MHEG application?

It seems amazing to me that one still can't get the same information
about programmes from MHEG that one can get from the Radio Times.

I think I'd actually be willing to pay £5 pm subscription if I could
press a couple of buttons on my remote and get:
Cast list
Writer / Director etc.
Accurate info as to whether a programme is a repat and when it was
previously shown ((and when it will be repeated).

Am I alone in this?

No chance!
The BBC get lots of money from flogging the Radio Times & they are not
about to give you that info for free.
Regards Mike.

Aha - that's my idea shelved then!
If there were, then I think they'd get a few takers.
£4 pm would probably mean that RT wouldn't be out of pocket.

Of course there is nothing stopping you from making one or two 'slight'
alterations and including a browser link to the Movie Database. ;-)

Whilst getting a full cast list *would* be of interest I'm more annoyed by
those non-film programmes that aren't properly identified anywhere. Linking an
STB to full computer facilities is relatively trivial; getting information out
of broadcasters who seemingly don't care about (seemingly don't know about)
the programmes they air is a different matter.

Yes, I think so.

It would be nice to have such information, but I can't see many people
paying for it, let alone an extra 50% compared to their TV licence.

I believe there is more information e.g. Genre that is sent but few STB's
have the software to receive it. I know there are TAPS available for the
Topfield PVR that will reveal the extra detail. I don't use the taps in
question but a visit to www.toppy.org.uk will explain more.

How would you do something like that then. DigiGuide carry detailed TV
listings and information on each program. It costs £8.99 a year.
The information is available through their own application, or via a
login website.

You missed the intro that included a smiley! 'Relatively trivial' does not
mean that I can do it - but it will obviously mean adding back the bits that
have been removed on its design journey from a full computer. In some cases
that may be little more than the OS.

Yes the "Genre" is part of the specification and is transmitted on FreeView,
but only the top-level codes are used, eg "Drama/Film", "Sports". However
the person who allocates the codes has obviously never seen or even heard
of the programmes.
