Default SKy+ box, is it broken?

Two or three times since installation about a fortnight ago my sky+ box
has crashed. Once it just froze and wouldnt change channel, the other
two times when it was set to record two channels and i was watching
something else, it came up with a warning asking which recording I
wanted to cancel. I didnt want to cancel either, so I just pressed
'backup', but the box switched itself off then came back on again a
couple of minutes later and started searching for listings. It's a Pace
8ogb one. is this known behaviour or is it faulty?

cheers
ed

We have the Pace first version and it seems to go through times when it
crashed more regularly than others.

Doesn't sound faulty - maybe the next software update will fix it?

I got the engineer to force a sowtware update when he installed it as
it didnt even have the 'icon timeout' feature. Is there something else
imminent?

Not sure, I just meant that it may be the box doesn't like the current
software version - there seem to be lots of posts on Sky discussion forums
about particular boxes having problems with particular versions.

Does a software update recommend you to buy a TiVo?

Just get the installer back.

Keep moaning until they get it working or until they give you a
refund. Do not accept used equipment.

Do not accept used equipment.

the front

I meant for the replacement, if one is offered.

Latest update in the 'is my sky box broken' saga... ,snip

have you done a planner reset? I have experienced problems which have been
fixed by this, if some of the disk space is badly allocated (for example as
a result of the box crashing) these sort of errors could easily occur, and
further errors caused by the crash can mangle the disk space even more, etc.

Bloody keyboard, I meant to say a planner rebuild. Should leave your
existing recordings alone, but reset the freespace, thus cleaning up any
corruption. Havn't had one of those erase my recordings, though there is
always a first time :-)
