Default Existing Customer Switch to New Packages

Has any existing Sky customer managed to switch from the old package system
to the new "pick and mix" one. I am looking to switch from whatever the
basic family package was called to one consisting to 2 or perhaps 4 of the
Entertainment Pack offerings.

Last August (?) with the impending increase from £19.50 to £21 for the
basic family entertainment package I phoned them up to cancel the
subscription as I decided they were taking the p##s. I was told about
the Mix packages being introduced (which I already knew about) and
that I would be able to reduce my fee by changing to a lower package
when the Mixes came into effect.

I was given three months half price to keep me sweet for the time
being and when the three months were up I phoned back and changed to
the two Mix pack there and then. It was as simple as a phone call. No
notice was required - the change was immediate.

So to answer your question - Yes! :-)

Thanks Tiny, I will give it a go.

I just did that a few days ago - dropping from 6 mixes to 2.

The only issue was that they are happy to publicise telephone numbers to
upgrade - but don't mention one to downgrade.

Once they had put me through to the right person they couldn't have been
more helpful - in marked contrast to a few years ago when I cancelled Sky
Movies. The guy did everything he could to talk me out of it.

That's just not correct! One of the options on the main publicised Sky CS
number (08702 404040) is "Press number to change your current subscription
level" (or words to that effect - it seemed pretty clear anyway!)

I just checked on the Sky website for doing 2 mixes + Sports and,
after the first four months, I'd save a grand total of £2 a month on
my current "everything except movies" package.

Am I missing something?

I got through to the downgrade part of the above number without any problems
and as said elsewhere, they were happy to downgrade from the package I had
(£21) to a two pack mix (£15) operational immediately together with a refund
for the difference for the rest of the month. Made me happy as someone once
adverstised :-)

It saves me £6/month, which on a "channels per pound" basis is a lot less
value for money.

Unless you consider that I was paying £72 a year for a bunch of channels
that I did not watch - and would rather spend on DVDs.
