Any truth to the following info picked up in a web search using a non google
powered search site ? WNET DT is running about 10 watts from an exciter only with a directional antenna pointed west on their building near Madison Square Gardens ? WNBC DT is running at half power or less due to problems with their Empire State Building transmission line and/or antenna setup ? Steve |

WNET DT is running about 10 watts from an exciter only with a directional antenna pointed west on their building near Madison Square Gardens ? Can't be true. I am picking it up 26 miles South of NYC. However, like WNBC, the signal is weaker than the others. Best signal is on an antenna heading of about 45 degrees, instead of the 10 degrees to the Empire State Building. My guess is that they are using the WLIW site on Long Island . They wouldn't bother running 10 W. According to the FCC site, they did have temporary authority to run something like 12 KW, which would be about 10 % power. I think they increased that in November, when I started to pick it up. WNBC DT is running at half power or less due to problems with their Empire State Building transmission line and/or antenna setup ? More than likely true. Clearly, they are fooling around. One day I got a full strength signal from them, equal to WCBS; next day they were back to a reading of barely 30, which is about the minimum the Sharp will lock on to (WCBS is 85). Not unusual for their signal to be weaker than NBC Philadelphia, which is 65 miles away. I haven't found any info at the WNBC or WNET web sites about their digital transmissions. Tam Steve |

I just took some signal readings at about 10:30 PM, Thursday. Looks like a
bad day for WNBC. Station Antenna North Antenna NorhtEast WCBS 87 80 WNBC 0 - 48 35 WNET 60 65 WLIW 50 60 I don't know exacty how they get the numbers, but it is NOT the signal amplitude. A crappy CATV amp makes them worse, even with 20 db gain. Tam |

Here is some info directly from WNET 13
--------- Thank you very much for your inquiry. Our transmitter is stationed on top of our studios at 450 West 33rd Street, a few blocks north of the Empire State Building. This could account for the difficulty you are having in receiving our signal. Many thanks for your interest in our programming. Thanks for the info. My problem may be that the signal is blocked by the
Empire State Building. Still don't understand why it peaks on an antenna heading of NE instead of N. Meanwhile, I am waiting for a reply from WNBC. If I hear from them, I will post it here. One listing I saw had WNBC at 10.5 KW; FCC authorization is for 200+ KW. Tam "Steve Stone" wrote in message ... Here is some info directly from WNET 13 --------- Thank you very much for your inquiry.
