I was thinking of buying one for wife so she can watch ITV upstairs, pointed
to astra 2d.

Looks decent. Not a bad price although unlike Rip-Off Britain the equivalent
system is for sale here in France for considerably less (the equivalent of about
60 pounds).

I'm assuming that you already have Sky digital. It depends what subscription you
already have but it may be cheaper to take one of their deals where you upgrade
to Sky+ (Apparently if quote "FEBPLUS" before March 1 will get you a free Sky+,
free installation and half-price subs for 3 months.). This would free up your
existing Sky box for redeployment with the added benefit that with your wife
will also be able to view C4, Five & Sky3 which the Maplin FTA box cannot.

But would she be comfortable, pointing at a sateliite while viewing?
;-
Why not pick up a second Sky box and use that?

I would get another Sky box with an FTV card. This will provide all
the FTA channels, the three FTV channels and a proper EPG. The Maplin
box will not do the latter two.

For new subscribers only, AFAIK.
