While roaming around looking for an extended warranty on my JVC 61"
HD-ILA, I found that one company was offering a 3-yr bulb replacement warranty. Covers up to 2 bulbs. Cost? $99.00 Maybe less if you roam around more than I did. Do a google search on warrantech and it will pop up a bunch of places to buy from. I've dealt with WarrenTech for many years and have found them to be a reputable company. For those that wonder, the JVC extended warranty is more expensive and isn't really with JVC either. It is a 3rd party and they have a 30-mile restriction. I'm way out of that range, so it wasn't an option at all. Basically I got 5-year total in-home coverage, with 3-yr Bulb Replacement for less than $300! Lloyd |

6000 hrs is the rating on these lamps. Odds are in the favor of you wasting
your money. Personally, I'd rather buy a lamp and have the spare on hand than wait for some insurance company to mail me one by way of Taiwan. "Lloyd Parsons" wrote in message ... But research shows that 6000 hours may be a bit of a stretch, especially on the JVC's. Everything I see points to at minimum, one a year. So I figger $99 vs $400 is a better bet. And backordered bulbs seem to be not out of the ordinary. Lloyd "Lloyd Parsons" wrote in message ... JVC has them in stock as I type. Mine is original, around 2000 hrs.

So, like all insurance, it's not that you're saving money, but spreading out your risk over several years. |

So, like all insurance, it's not that you're saving money, but spreading out your risk over several years. I don't have a problem with them making a few bucks, that is what business is all about. But on the JVC HD-ILAs there is much discussion about the short-lived bulbs. While many are not having problems, enough are that the insurance seems to make sense. I figure that in 3 years I will use at least 2 bulbs, since they are $200 a pop, the $99 seems like a wise choice. I could be wrong... ;-) |
