Default Help / sugestions req.

Hi all,
My Sky+ failed last night, the whole lot seized up when I tried to view
something in the planner. It got to the same point in the movie and seized.

I re-booted, looked in the planner & everything had gone. I tried to save
something for later in the planner & a box popped up warning me that the box
had a fault. I have also tried forcing a software update. Downloading is
the only time I can get the thing out of standby, once installed I can't
turn it on.

What are the best options as it is out of warranty?

Buy a new box. Will have problems registering my card to it?

Get Sky to repair it? Do they come out & replace with a new box or will I
perhaps get a scabby second-hand replacement?

Cancel my subscription & start again? How long will it be before they see
me as a new customer or is it full of pitfalls?

Any suggestions/comments/help would be greatly appreciated. You don't know
how much you love the thing til it's gone *sob*

Regards,
Roy.

No, I bought a box and installed it myself as it was cheaper then
getting sky to do it, no probs reg card at all. There are quite a few
new and used on ebay, take the usual precations of course!

From what I have seen here they just replace yours with a refurbished
box for the £65 service charge. I presume it will be a similar model to
the one you have.

I was not on sky for 18 mth and they still had my details on record.
From what I've read here getting someone else at the SA to gegister
seems to work and sky don't check.

Ringing them up and trying for a free service call may work, there was a
thread about this a while ago whick linked to an article in the press
about negitioting tricks to use.

If it's a HD faliure they seem to be simple enough to repalce and you
should be able to pick a new HD for less than £65 but if it's not you
will have wated money on a new HD.

Can you do a full reset, clearing the disk?

I have a similar problem how does one do a full reset? I have rebuilt the
library but all the stored programs are gone. How does one diagnose a hard
disk problem?

Services 4 0 1 select, option 8 is 'full system reset'
