Can't seem to get Lyngsat.com to come up right now (7:37 AM, EST), but
anyway... A couple of years back, I seem to remember seeing something online about an unscrambled feed of the Ohio News Network (ONN) being available FTA. (free to air) In other words, if you were willing to spend a couple hundred on the right receiver and equipment, you could get it without paying a subscription fee to cable. Has anyone out there successfully decoded this feed? If so, I would really like to talk to you! ONN's official reply is that there is NO WAY for anyone to watch their show without paying a cable subscription. However, they may legally be bound to say that, because they did not respond to my followup email mentioning the specific posted satellite info: ONN transmitted from satellite SBS 6 at 74.0 degrees W DVB video encryption frequency of 11741 (conus H beam) tp1 - Ku band If anyone out there has the equipment to test this out, I would greatly appreciate you taking a minute or two to see if you can get this. I'd be willing to spend $200-$300 on the equipment to get this, but I don't want to pay subscription fees. |

I had no problem picking up ONN a few months ago. Probably back in November
or October. I haven't tried since because I don't have interest in that channel. It was in the clear, unencrypted. ONN probably doesn't officially broadcast to the public on SBS 6, so that is why they said its only available via local cable. Also, they could pull the plug anytime on that FTA feed, or encrypt it anytime. So if you spend $$ on a FTA setup just for that channel, you'll be in for a surprise if they decide to encrypt, discontinue or move the feed to another satellite/band that your FTA unit can't pick up.
