Default Lost channels

I have a Panasonic digibox that has run fine for several months,
having replaced a Grundig that kicked its clogs after many years
service.

Only now have many channels disappeared. It gives the message about
technical faults with the channel. Reboot doesn't clear it, neither
does a "new installation". I have the basic package but I called Sky
and had the card/box matched up in their records just in case.

Sky say that the box is faulty. Anyone guess and say why it is faulty,
and is it worth trying to get it fixed?

As an example of channels lost

BBC1 dead
BBC2 ok
ITV1 dead
C4 dead
Five ok
Sky One dead
Sky Two ok
Sky3 ok
UKTV Gold dead
UKTV Gold +1 ok
UKTV G2 dead
Living dead
Living+1 dead
Living2 dead

Why are some channels perfect still but others are dead? I can't see a
pattern. BBC1 and BBC2 are off the same transponder and yet BBC1 is
dead and BBC2 is not.

Looking at lyngsat (http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/skyuk.html), it
appears that you get "horizontal " channels but not "vertical".

Could be no switching signal or the LNB is not switching?

regarding fixing, I'll leave that to those who know.

I think that you are right and it is the verticals that have gone. I
had looked at this and misread the BBC1s as every street in the UK
seems to have its own version.

I've just tried my old Grundig (its problem was with sound) and the
channels are all there. It would have easier to switch over an lnb but
I guess that it is the box.
