Default Remove Sky by Broadband

Nice service, but when you install the software it comes with a nasty little
peer to peer application that you have no option but to install and no way
of turning off. I've read that other subscribers have been told by Sky
support that it only runs when you are actually using the main application,
but actually it runs as a service when Windows starts, using up your
bandwidth, memory, processor and system resources all the time.

Instructions to remove it can be found at:

You are extrapolating far too far!

From observation Sky By Broadband's KService connects to NO "trackers" and
requires no incoming or outgoing ports to be opened for it. Sky are
most probably correct that it only DOES anything when the main application
is active.

My experience and that of quite a few other people who have raised this in
various blogs is that KService runs as soon as you boot your PC. You do not
have to be running the main skybybroadband client application for your PC to
be uplodaing its content to other skybybroadband subscribers. If you are on
an ISP contract with capped monthly bandwidth, this sneaky use of your
resources could easily put you over your allowance. Unacceptable, and so is
putting something on your PC, even if you inadvertantly agreed to it,
without also providing the means to uninstall it.

And why bother with such a resource hogger that relies on you
subscribing to Sky Movies when there are far better tried-and-tested
programs out there, or is it the fact that they're not endorsed by a
legal body that people shy away from them?

Oh, that small matter of those other programs facilitating large scale
copyright theft which is indeed not 'endorsed by a legal body' ?

You might ask why would anyone use iTunes when they can just steal
their music with Kazaa?

Yes - as do 30+ other services - mostly Microsoft

; You do not
: have to be running the main skybybroadband client application for your PC to
: be uplodaing its content to other skybybroadband subscribers.

That's your BIG assumption! I have studied what KService actually *DOES* and
how it interacts with my router firewall and ZoneAlarm and I see no evidence
that
what you say is true!

Just *HOW* does KService know what to upload and to where without incoming
ports or connection to a tracker?

I wouldn't consider it theft if the programme's going to show on a TV
channel I subscribe to but in certain cases I'll want to stay ahead of
the UK broadcast because the media always spoil what's about to happen.

There was a twist at the end of Nip Tuck Season 2 which was spoilt when
I simply turned the page in the paper and there was the 'answer'.

You might ask why would anyone use iTunes when they can just steal
their music with Kazaa?

I might have some sympathy with iTunes and all the similar operations
if they didn't force their DRM **** all over the files.

I agree with both of those points, but the fact is that it's still
illegal.

Hmm that DRM **** is exactly what's stopping me using sky broadband....the
fricken' update to WM10 (which I loathe) just will not install. Sod it -
I'll just uninstall the bloody lot and watch the television instead.
