Default sky+ - recording to VCR question

hi all,
when i first got my sky+ box, i assumed the copy to video features would
let you copy to a video *whilst watching other channels*. it doesnt'
appear to, though. have i just got my scarts wired up wrongly?

No, its not technically possible for Sky+, nothing to do with your scarts.

No, its not technically possible for Sky+, nothing to do with your scarts.

I should imagine that outputting different programs on the two scart
sockets would cause far more problems than it would solve!

It's simply because whilst the box has two tuners, it only has one
decoder. It can only ever display one video stream at a time. There is
talk of a new Sky+ box that will have multiple tuners and two decoders
but it's yet to make any sort of appearance.

Neither, it's a limitation of the hardware. There is only one decoder in the
box, so it can only decode one MPEG stream at a time (the box records the
'raw' MPEG stream being sent on a channel. It is only decoded at playback
time).
