Default SciFi Channel in HD

When will we get the SciFi Channel in HD? I would love to see some of there
programming in HD such as SG1, Surface and Battlestar Gallactica.

There has no announcement or even reliable rumors of Sci-Fi offering a
HD channel. It would be nice, especially since I get Sci-Fi as an analog
channel via cable and it is one of the worse looking of the analog
channels for me. The first 10 episodes of Season 2 of Battlestar
Galactica are currently being shown on the UniversalHD network, but UHD
is not available on many cable systems. FYI, Sci-Fi is currently showing
the 2nd half (episodes 2.11 to 2.20) of season 2 of BSG on Friday
nights, so UHD is showing the episodes from last summer.

The earlier seasons of SG-1 and SG Atlantis are syndicated and there
are no local stations that I have heard of that are showing any
syndicated shows in HD. However, the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy game
shows have announced that they will be going HD this fall and will make
the 2 shows available in HD. Since this are syndicated shows, that might
prompt some stations which broadcast network feeds in HD to add the
equipment to show syndicated & local shows in HD. But this will take
years even for the major market stations to routinely do this.

The short answer is don't hold your breath for Sci-Fi HD anytime soon.

In my area the SciFi channel is analog with one of the worst signals
and picture quality. However, they show reruns on the FOX HD channel
and the quality is much better. The problem is, the original HD
material has all been downrezzed to SD and then broadcast on an HD
channel, so you get postage stamp with vorders on all four sides. And
because it's on an HD channel, I can't zoom to fill the screen because
it's already at full screen, only at 4:3.

I have heard that SciFi and HGTV will go HD someday but no date has
even been hinted at.

They have been rerunning Battlestar Galactica in HD on the Universal HD
channel.
