Default 1st day with Comcast HD.. 1st impressions...

Here in Ft Wayne, IN we have had Comcast HD for a few weeks and I had
it installed today including these stations - I've just seen HDTV
briefly at HIFI shops so I have no long exposure...

NBC
PBS
INHD
INHD 2
ESPN
HBO

The INHD stations just seem to be demos of some kind, pretty boring
once the "oooh ahhhh" factor is gone..

I don't know why CBS, ABC, and FOX aren't carried.. really was
disappointed by this as NBC is my least watched network. Anyone else
get ALL the networks from Comcast? If so how long did it take to
get them all?

Please don't get me wrong on the following because I DO like the
picture quality much better than before, but with regards to Sunday
Night Football I'm watching right now, here's my take...

Close-ups are awesome, very satisfied with those - but with the actual
gameplay I am somewhat disappointed. I really thought it be much
'sharper' and 'finer' than what it is. After waiting years for the
format, and it likely being the only upgraded format I'll see in my
lifetime (I'm 34), I guess I expected it to be better. Again, I like
the picture alot better than standard res. Maybe my expectations
were too high. One more thing, some programs state they are in HD but
were filmed years ago. How is this possible? And the installer said
movies on HBO look better than DVD... true?

Thanks to all who respond!!!

Take in to account that in HD they like doing much longer shots of the line of
scrimmage so you can see all the players instead of the way they zoom some of
them out in SD. They even go out so wide you can see refs standing around. If
they did the same shots in HD they do in SD, it would be more of a 'wow'
factor.

Last night's game on ESPN was by far the least impressive HD game they
have broadcast this year. Maybe it was the lighting or something but
in my opinion it didn't measure up to it's usual offering. Next game
should be better.

I'm very surprised you don't find the long shots pleasing. On my plasma they're
sharp as a tack, just like being there. I don't know if it's your cable system
or perhaps your TV that has the problem, but you should be wowed.

Japan's NHK commissioned a number of very very pretty HD productions to fill
their "Hi-Vision" analog HDTV offering.

So they are really HD and some of the best looking content around.

As for DVD's vs HD... I watched Toy Story 2 on ABC last month. Flipping
between regular channel NTSC, HD (720P) and DVD (480P), the differences
between each were very apparent. HD is to DVD what DVD is to NTSC.
