cancelled sky

phone sky on 25th sept to cancel - said 5th oct direct debit already
applied for - does that sound right, 10 days ahead?

anyway sky tried to get me to go on a reduced rate but not cancel but I
was adamant so oct 25th it gets turned off and the card goes FTA

frankly its the ads that get me down, the way progs dont have an 'end
of part one' buffer but go straight to the break sometimes overlapping
the dialogue with those annoying audio links before ocean finance
customers tell me how wonderful their life is.

Card goes FTV - ITV1, ITV2, Ch4 and Five. FTA requires no card.

I understand your hatred for the ads, they seem to swamp the programs,
the music channels seriously make me fed up to the back teeth.

I know its not Sky, but last nights Lost on E4 had a commercial break before
the Lost titles had come on the screen, that has to be some form of record
!!

I cancelled mainly because I opened my eyes to the fact that I am
paying for a subscription service, not to watch ad breaks; hear chatter
over film credits at a time when you might wish to contemplate the
movie's 'message'; etc etc

It's a question I often ask myself... why do we have to pay twice? The

thing. with Sky we pay twice

I've been saying that since the analogue days.

Sky One and the general entertainment channels were FTA,Once Sky had grabbed
BSB and got their cushy monopoly we suddenly needed a card for everything
apart from the Non-Sky channels (such as the German stuff)

*Encryption is to stop other countries in Europe seeing our programmes*, Yet
RTL etc did'nt bother too much about us seeing theirs!
The real reason is of course is to subsidise Sky Sports to ensure Sky has
masses amounts of cash to simply out-bid terrestrial channels for crap
football, From football it's spread to other programmes and sports.
Reading the F1 Newsgroup some posters agree the new A1 Racing will never
catch on whilst it's encrypted on Sky (This week-end remains to be seen if
they now bung adverts all over the place whilst the first race ever
contained none)
It's probably the reason F1 on ITV is crammed with adverts, They NEED to
raise the cash to ensure Sky don't swipe that as well.

Hel, Imagine having to subscribe to Sky sports and STILL sit through panfuls
of ads if F1 switched to Sky!

We only have to see how Sky's dirty trick campaign with the BBC to get 24
was done to realise Sky are a law unto themselves...I would'nt be too
surprised in the coming years to having the name changed to Sky/ITC
TV..Might as well be already :-/

Hopefully the BBC/ITV satellite box IF it takes off will make $ky think
twice although I doubt it..They'll only be concerned if crap yank
programming or football suddenly turned up on FTA channels ( I picture
Murdoch running full speed to hollywood shouting "Guess what guys They're
showing your stuff where all Europe can see!"

Quite simple for the *competition* really to produce an FTV card..So what if
they're free and could be sent to Europe,At least they'd be following
Skys...Sorry ITC or whoevers Regulations :-)

Don't forget the NTL telewest takeover, which is supposed to be so
they can fight sky. Personally I can't see it but I think you're
right, we're subsidising the sports channels greed.

Quite, I never understood the madness over that either.

Both Cable channel companies actually showing err...Sky channels and paying
to carry them to err..Sky.
People do seem to be wising up slowly although as I've mentioned before with
On-Screen DOGS, The next generation of young adults will be remembering CITV
dogs and think it's quite normal to have grafitti all over the screen :-/

Still with all this on-screen grafitti...Subscribers know you do get more
for your money (although not necessary what they want)

Sure, We're slowly getting channels opting out of being encrypted by Sky
(realising the money can be actually be spent on programming.

Perhaps the competitions sat box might see change,Depending on how good the
ITC or whoever can defend Sky (As they usually do)

on a personal level, I am fed up with the amount of 'choice' on sky as
well ...... I am going to get a freeview box and use I think the 10 or
so worthwhile channels on there is more than enough ......
