Default Sky+ recording probelm on House last night

Not only did it entirely miss the program and start half way into the
next program but it recorded *522* minutes, 27% of the entire HD taken
up (and that is with an 80gig HD installed) with the program.

Did anybody else have this?

(I have never had any problem with the replacement HD since it was
fitted a year or so ago, I have just got a software update last week)

No, I'm not a $ky customer, but if it's any consolation, the episode was
pretty boring. So much so that I fell asleep through it, so I personally
don't think that you've missed much - others may disagree. House is
usually pretty good - this is only the second episode so far that hasn't
done it for me.

I suspect that the software upgrade is to do with this. There's lots of
people (me included) with problems over on digitalspy.co.uk's forums.

Nothing as severe as that for me. However, I can't playback anything while
it's recording. Kind of useless at the moment then really.

I'm gonna try the original disk back in it (I've got 250 Gig in mine right
now) or maybe stick the 250 into a PC to erase it. Either way, got to sort
it out cos the box is next to useless.

My TiVo recording of the programme is perfect.

Well thank you for that entirely useless, pointless post.

No, it wasn't pointless. There are sometimes TiVo-bashing posts from
Sky+ owners who say that they need two tuners and that's more important.
My post was an effort to redress the balance in a tongue-in-cheek way.
TiVo is extremely reliable at making recordings, and on the rare
occasions it does goes wrong it is just that one recording, it doesn't
wipe the disc. Not that that happened to you in this instance but Sky+
does seem to have a nasty habit of panicking and wiping the entire disc
of recordings when it hits a problem, judging by some recent and older
postings here.

Quite, The problem here...It's the Sky newsgroup where Murdoch is God and
Sky+ is the dogs wotsits.....

A pity the dog was castrated and the wotsits have long since withered ;-)

I doubt you can find such a post*. But I take your irrelevant point, that
Tivo is more reliable.....in the same way that a VCR is more reliable than
Tivo...so what, they are different devices, I might as well complain that
every time I try to record two programs at the same time with my Tivo, it
fails to do so, as it does when I try and watch a third program whilst
recording two.

* you'll find a fair few posts where recovering from a fault entires wiping
existing recordings, but very few where you dont have the opportunity to
watch them first before needing to wipe the disk, eg its usually (IME and
from posts here) your choice when to erase).

Making the distinction here between a software bug and a disk fault, I'm
sure you wouldnt boast that the disks in Tivo are invunerable to failure.
