Default sky sports - other options ?

Hiya guys,

Sorry if this is ot....

Sky sports is prohibitive for me as I have a pub. I keep being told that
Dutch or Arab satellites do the same programmes in English without monthly
charges if you have the right dish. Is this true ? Is it legal ? What is it
called if it is ??? any info much appreciated. what's it cost ?

my neighbours are showing sky sports without a pub license and I am losing
trade but don't/wont break the law.

any help appreciated.

tia

It is true but it probably isn't legal.

The rights to show UK matches are always owned by someone and it won't
be you.

Whether they are prepared to sue you or not is another matter. Maybe
you should ask a specialist media solicitor.

There aren't any foreign channels showing regular English premiership
games in the clear unfortunately (see knplogic.com), but many foreign
subscriptions are much cheaper than Sky, looking around it seems a 6
month subscription to ART is popular ... BUT and it is a big BUT
it has been reported in publications in the past such as "what
satellite" that pubs in the past have been taken to court (or at least
have been threatened to) by the FA for showing games not on Sky (such
as the Saturday 3pm kick off), I assume for copyright infringement or
similar, so I guess this is breaking the law as much as using a home
Sky subscription

Regards

Chris

So why not casually enquire of your Sky representative how your
neighbours "are allowed to" show Sky Sports without a licence when you
have to pay?

Because in some areas you will find the next day your pub is burnt out
