Parents have been customers for 14 years..... not happy

Ignore the guarantee. UK law provides that all items sold should be
fit for the purpose and of merchantable quality. There are no time
limits on this though the length of time a thing can be expected to

part that is likely to break down: the hard drive. A reconditioned
Sky+ will probably contain a new drive and if ever it goes wrong you
can fit another yourself for little cost.

If you take a look at the Sky+ Forum on Digitial Spy;
http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...splay.php?f=35 this has been
discussed several times on what people have been offered and the "new" box
for £99 or a "recon" box for £50 seems to be the norm. No one has been
offered a free box.

Personally, I'm the same. I've been with Sky since 1991, always on the top
package, so I would automatically consider myself a loyal customer and would
expect something more than the usual 'as advertised price' .. but whilst I
know I'd have to jump through hoops and haggle a bit to get a reduction, I
wouldn't personally expect it for nothing. If I wanted it that badly I'd be
happy to pay £99 for it

long you can keep recordings? would they still play 10 years from now?

Surely not. Sky make changes to the software, encryption and viewing
cards from time to time and this often results in old recordings being
rendered useless.
