Default Lidl Sat systems from Thursday 1 Sept

Lidl have *two* digital satellite systems on special from Thursday 1 Sept.

A $ky compatible box with enough bits to make a complete system, but you
will need a $ky card to receive it. GBP59.99. See sig for freesatfromsky
information.

A non $ky system which will receive the Beeb Channels, but not ITV1, Ch4 or
Ch5 at 39.99 for the box and only. The necessary other bits are sold
separately.

I will post URLs when Lidl update its site, probably on Friday.

The stores have paper leaflets available now.

To get one, be first in the queue when the stores open on Thursday 1 Sept.

There is no way you can use a Sky card with these satellite receivers, they
are free-to-air only. It's yet another mistake by Lidl. They are
essentially the same receiver, only one of them come complete with dish,
LNB etc.

No, I'd like a dead cat in a glass.

I have found the manual for this box
http://www.mysilvercrest.de/foto/sup..._57_man_UK.pdf
and there is definitely no slot to fit a Sky viewing card so this box will
not receive Sky encrypted or free to view programs. It will only receive
Free to Air programs.

"CALLS for the immediate launch of an independent free-to-air digital TV
satellite service have been made by a prominent viewers' group.

"The success of the Government's digital strategy could depend on it," said
Jocelyn Hay, chairman of the Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV).

The VLV pointed out that more than a quarter of UK households will not be
able to receive the free-to-air digital terrestrial television service
Freeview until after existing analogue transmissions are switched off."

IMO this is something that's really needed, a Freeview style satellite
package with sufficient capacity for some HD programming.

Just spoken to Comag who make the box. They tell me it is the system,
because it has a twin lnb, that allows you to connect both the SL65 and your
own Sky Box to the same dish! This is the reasoning behind Lidl's claim for
Sky compatibilty. I suspect there has been something lost in the
translations here!

I have the sneaking suspicion that you cannot recieve sky on it apart from
the unencrypted channels, and that the tagline is incorrect.
I.E. Not BBC1/...,

In the thread ' the Lidl silver crest SL65' over in
alt.satellite.tv.europe 'Pekilan' has identified that the Lidl model
in
Italy 'does' have two CI slots with model number SL65/2CI (surprise).
He has one. This may be because the principal Italian channels or
very occasionally encrypted -(for sport).

So perhaps this is how the Lidl marketing got confused in translation.
