Default Lost the rest of the program

I recorded, on Sky+, an episode of Foyles War. I started to watch it
the evening and stopped part of the way through for a cup of tea. When
I tried to watch the rest it had gone from my personal planner. I
didn't get this problem, before I got Sky+, when I recorded to VCR, the
rest of the tape didn't disappear. Why would Sky+ lose the rest of my
program?

I had a problem where my Sky clock was wrong by 20 minutes - when I got
home
all my shows had recorded from halfway through.

Because the software is buggy?

So are you suggesting that it's something that just happens from time to
time (using Windows XP, I'm used to idiosyncrasies)and there's nothing I
can do about it or is there something I can do, once I've watched part
of a recording, to preserve the rest?

When I recorded to vcr tape I often lost programs, usually because it was in
the middle of 1 of 10 identical scruffy cassettes somewhere and I couldnt
find it, or someone recorded over it.

But in any event the asnwer to your Q is 'because its a computer and
sometimes computers go wrong'...just as VCRs sometimes chew up tapes.

I use XP all day every day and rarely have any trouble but I don't
think that the Sky+ software is as reliable as that. Others have had
similar problems with recordings. Regular planner rebuilds may help.

I can't remember the last time my Tivo missed a recording (it makes 10
or 15 a day, every day) and it has never deleted a part-viewed one
without my say-so. The Tivo is a simple computer also but it seems to
be much more reliable than the Sky+. Only the EPG data lets the Tivo
down.

Sounds like you have an Amstrad box?

indeed I do - they replaced my old one that i bought 18 months which I never
had a problem with (not Amstrad), unfortunately it broke in my recent house
move. Since then I have had 3 Amstrad boxes with various degrees of
craziness (crashing, missing sound during playback, jumping, deleting
programmes off planner). All in all not a happy camper about it but on the
scale of my life its not my priority - I am doing my best not to 'sweat the
small stuff'.
