Default Sky+ problems

Just been on my holidays and set my sky+ to record while i was away. On my
return i have discovered a few problems. One of the problems is it recorded
the world athletic championships on 4 different occasions using up lots of
space even overwriting earlier recordings. I know i definately didnt set it
for this. The other problem is some of the programmes i recoreded are
causing problems. The picture goes funny and freezes from time to time and
the sound keeps cutting out and only coming back if i fast forward or
rewind.
I have seen mention of cleaning the hard drive up would this help and if so
how do i do it.
any help would be much apreciated
thanks

services 4 0 1 select then choose appropriate option. Full system reset
might be appropriate if there is nothing there you really want to keep
otherwise try rebuild free space first (the former will nuke everything, the
latter shouldn't. IMHO its worth deleting problem recordings first before
the RFS).
Always worth a power off/on as well to start that can clear problems (make
sure its in standby when you do that)

Hmmm, our Sky+ box sometimes records programmes we didn't ask it to.

Okay, I may have pressed the record button accidentally a few times.
But it's difficult to believe I also series linked these programmes and
set them to keep.

Sometimes series links get reused so you end up with such a recording. I
beleive that is why I had the Muslim Channel recorded once ..either that or
the big guy in the sky is try to tell me something.
