I have 3 scart connections on my TV and wonder which I should use for my
Sky+ box. Scart 1 Audio/Video input signal through Scart or RGB through Scar Scart 2 Audio/video input signal through scart or S-video through scart Scart 3 as for scart 2. The reason I'm confused is that I see references to RGB in the FAQs however the manual with came with the TV suggests Scart 2 Can someone advise please? Danny |

Other than a Component Video connection, RGB SCART is the highest quality analog connection you can make. I expect the author of your TV manual is assuming that you are using Scart1 for a DVD player and my advice will assume that you do. Personally, I would "hate" your TV for only having one RGB input, but that's me. AFAIK, Sky+ won't output s-video, so without an adapter, or switching your DVD player to s-video (if it will do so), you're a bit knackered for getting maximum picture quality from both boxes. But I don't know if your TV/DVD units support component video. If so, connect the DVD using that and you can use the RGB Scart1 for Sky+. Problem solved. Or: If you don't have a DVD or don't care, connect Sky+ to Scart1 and ensure you select RGB in the video settings on the box. Or: If you do have DVD and it will do s-video, and component is unavailable, set that up and connect it to Scart 2 and connect Sky+ to Scart 1 as above. This is the best compromise available to you. Some DVD players don't feature s-video since (and this is why Sky boxes don't do it either) you can't get widescreen switching across it, certainly not if using an s-video DIN connector anyway. Or: Alternatively, get a Scart switchbox that handles RGB, such as Trilogy 1 or 2, and use that to share the Scart 1 input on your TV. This will give you top-notch RGB pictures from both. More detail of your equipment would allow for better answers from myself, and those who know better than me! ;-) --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. If you have a Sky+ and other RGB devices (DVD player etc.) then, as mentioned, you will either need to get an RGB scart switcher or to choose a lower quality connection for one of the boxes (the Sky+ does do S-Video). If you only have a Sky+ and a DVD player then you can connect the DVD player to the VCR scart socket on the Sky+ and get full RGB and auto-scart switching from both. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Danny I use a Scart switching box so all the junk - Sky digibox, DVD player, Humax Freeview PVR all go to Scart 1 & have RGB set. Regards Mike. |

snip (the Sky+ does do S-Video). Cool - out of interest, do you know if S-Video over SCART can carry a switching signal for widescreen? I have no idea! ;-) --- avast! Even if you get a mini-DIN to scart adaptor the pin8 W/S switching will still not work, though I suppose you could try making some sort of patch lead from the digibox scart output. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Thanks, I understand. Frustrates me that in 2005 it is *still* difficult to get an optimal set-up. I've got standard Sky, a DVD player and a DVD recorder. Even with a two RGB scart and one other scart TV, it has been challenging. Cheers. --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. Danny Sorry if I've appeared rude for not replying earlier however my PC went belly up & it's taken me all week to get it sorted out. Thank you all for your advice. I'll connect Sky+ to the RGB Scart 1 & see if the other appliances (DVD & VCR) work ok using the other 2. Danny |
