Default Damaged box?

I moved house and took my dish and box. I used a meter to align the dish but
the box says no signal. When I was wiring it up I mixed the inner copper
wire with the outer copper mesh of the cable that connects the dish and box.
I didn't realise they were not suppose to make contact until I read around.
I now have a new cable with them seperate but I get a weak signal. Have I
broken the box?

In my experience Digiboxes are not usually damaged by a shorted IF cable,
but it is something that is better avoided.

What kind of meter did you use, the simple "satellite finders" do not
identify which bird they are receiving, you may have pointed your dish at
the wrong satellite eg. Astra 1 (19.2e) or Hotbird (13e)

What information does your box give you in "signal test"

What this actually does is short out the power transistor that switches
between 14v and 18v going up to lnb (for polarity switching). If you're
still getting all channels, however weakly, then things should still be
ok.

I don't see how the tuner could be damaged this way, giving you a
weaker signal, but maybe it's possible (if the tranny faults by
shorting to earth).

Most sat receivers have either output current limiting, or a fuse, to
prevent shorting the antenna cable causing damage.
