I'm looking for some advice regarding an annoying
fault our Sky Plus box has developed over the last couple of days. The box has started rebooting at random intervals. The picture freezes for a second, the screen then goes black for five to ten seconds then the box reboots. I've tried numerous planner rebuilds and a full system reset to no avail. I haven't tried a forced software download. Is that worth trying? What is the likely cause of the fault? I'm guessing either a hard drive or power supply problem. The 12-month warranty just ran out so, rather than pay for an engineer to come out, I was considering changing the hard drive myself. Would you recommend this? Thanks for any help. |

i don't have a sky+, but can say that lots of people get these
problems. 1st, try a software reload (several times, if necessary). next step is a "rebuild", but that's drastic, since it erases all exisiting recordings. |

I'm guessing either a hard drive or power supply problem. Could be either if it isn't a software problem. The 12-month warranty just ran out so, rather than pay for an engineer to come out, Your legal rights extend far beyond any warranty period. I would definitely pursue this in court, or at least threaten to which should be enough to get the required free service visit. You can also try fitting another drive first, just to see what happens. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
