Sky takes full control of Artsworld - will be available to all

Sky buys out arts channel

BSkyB, the pay TV company which built its business on Premiership football
and Hollywood movies, is to increase its role as an unlikely patron of opera
and ballet. The satellite giant will this week take full control of the
Artsworld channel and make it available to its subscribers for no charge.

As a result the channel, which offers a wide range of performances and
documentaries on the visual arts, film, opera and literature, will increase
its potential audience from a few hundred thousand to several million.

From September, the majority of Sky's 7.7 million subscribers will be able
to watch Artsworld, which was previously restricted to those prepared to pay
an extra £6 a month.

It will still get crap viewing figures. BBC4 is available to even more
viewers and still gets **** poor ratings.
