Default Viewing Card woes

Hi,

Last night, all was well with my Sky viewing. From this morning, can only
get free channels and not even ITV, Ch 4 or 5!
Rang Sky, they said they'll send me a new one out, I should get it Monday or
Tuesday. 8^/
All I get on other channels is "Initialising new viewing card, please wait".
I've done several resets, including a "New installation" from the Installer
menu.

Any suggestions on how to get things working?

SW

Even if you do manage to get it working, it will go off soon after, 'cus Sky
would have sent a "kill signal" as soon as you asked for a replacement.

Free To Air channels require no viewing card hence they are working fine.
ITV1, ITV2, Ch4 and Five require viewing card as they are Free To View.

When viewing the details in [Services], 4-System Setup, 5-System Details
does this display your viewing card number?

It could be the card reader has packed in, or a faulty card.

I'll just have to get a life until the new card comes, won't I!

It says "No card"
I hope its just the card thats faulty, not the reader.

Try someone else's card to test it.

I will tomorrow. The new card arrived today and its no different. Rang them
up and they offered me a technicians visit for £65 etc. I told them I'd try
swapping the card first with a neighbours'.
I tried forcing a software update as well but no joy. Could it be a software
error do you think? I suspect it because it was OK on Friday night and was
duff on Saturday morning, and I've had software updates on a Friday night
before.

If the new card doesn't show a number in the system details then it is
the box which is faulty.

It may be the card reader or it may be the software. Either way you
can find a used box for much less than the £65 call-out charge and can
buy a brand new one for only a little more than that charge.

Well the card swap showed that the fault lies with the box not the card.

I agree that the £65 is a bit steep considering you have to fit in with
their visiting times and you only get 3 months warranty, so its off to eBay
I go! There's boxes there for around £30, no real warranty but hey.
Would you have a recommendation for a place (online) to buy a new one?

Regards

Actually I've been to the Sky website, and if I was a new user, I could have
sky+ with the package I've got now for just £89 for the box and not have to
pay the extra £10 a month!
Sounds better than the option of just replacing the current box. If I cancel
my subscription now, and take out a new one in my wife's name, that's not
cheating, is it?!?!?
