They offered me another two months half price, but once the one day
cricket is over most of the tests are on C4 so I cancelled.

I said I only wanted the sport and they could keep all the other
channels. He countered with 'there is a package that is only the
sports channels plus sky one and discovery. I asked how much,
expecting it to be considerably less than the £33 for SS World. he
said it was £31! I said that with respect that was crap. He agreed.
He did say, however, that in september there would be a number of new
packages available.

Yes, they are going to have to sort something out. People who only want Sky
for a small number of things are being priced out of it because they are
having to stump up for a load of rubbish they will never watch. As I said
I`ve been paying £16.50 for the Sports Package over the last year and that`s
about all it`s worth to me. I`ll never pay full price for any of the
packages again.

To be honest, I don't think Sky Sports, or Sky itself, would be viable without the football. They'd have to come up with a completely different model if they didn't have the monopoly on live Premiership football.

They wont ever lose that though. They know all too well that tehir
business depends on it, which is why they paid about a zillion quid for
all the rights at the last auction. To be fair, their coverage is
excellent, but so it should be for the price.

I'm sure that there will be a number of new price available too, all
higher than =A331!

I remember when I first had Sky they tried to differentiate the sports
channels, saying that Premier League football would be on SS1, and
Cricket on SS2 for example, yet in my experience they never stuck to
this plan, and you'd often find cricket on SS1 and even more
annoyingly, SSX, which you cant pay for - it just comes 'free' when
you get the others, making a mockery of their price options that allow
you to choose one or other of the sports channels

I don't give flying f**k for the football. I miss some rugby cos I'll only
pay for one sport channel. I want rugby, nothing else.

And you'll miss loads of great rugby by pursuing such a strategy. Lions
tour is on SS1, but as far as I remember the zurich premiership is on
SS2. In July the tri-nations is on SS2 but the Mandela Cup on SS3.

So basically you cannot follow one sport on one channel, so must pay
for them all. What a bunch of b'stards sky are eh?!
